Profiling the best stunt team in the business

Well it’s D-day… Arrow Season 2 premiere in the US. I thought I’d do some research and profile the stunt team that’s going to provide all the action on Amell Wednesdays.

JJ Makaro has worked for almost 30 years in the stunt industry, performing stunts in Airwolf, Legends of the Fall and The Incredible Hulk. He has stunt co-ordinated a variety of projects such as 21 Jump Street, Sliders, Night at the Museum and Arrow Season 1, in which he won a Leo Award for Stunt Co-ordination. He was nominated for a Taurus Stunt Award for Best Stunt Co-ordinator in 2001 for  3000 Miles to Graceland. This season he shifts to supervise the stunts on both Arrow and The Tomorrow People.

James Bamford – Stunt Co-ordinator/Fight Choreographer – ARROW, Supervising Fight Choreographer – The Tomorrow People

What more could I say about my favourite person, the reason for this fansite, than I have already said. James is the most original fight choreographer currently working in the film industry. The Leo & TOIFA Award winner for Stunt Co-ordination, James has doubled for David Duchovny in The X-Files and performed stunts in the brilliant web series Mortal Kombat Legacy and films such as Eragon, Watchmen and Blade: Trinity. In addition he has stunt co-ordinated The Butterfly Effect, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe among a string of other films and TV shows.

James is passionate about film and TV but has a keen sense of fun. He grew up watching Hong Kong Martial Arts films and is skilled in various forms of martial arts. He is known for the sound effects he adds when demonstrating fight sequences.

Jon Kralt – Stunt Co-ordinator ARROW

If a character on Season 1 of Arrow fell off a platform, or was thrown down some stairs it was sure to be Jon. In fact I labelled him the “Kenny” of Arrow for the number of times he’s died.

Nominated for a SAG Stunt Ensemble Award in 2013 for The Bourne Legacy, Jon has doubled the likes of Mark Valley in Human Target and Tom Felton in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

He is a skilled driver and motorcyclist and in the 18 years he’s been in the stunt industry he has performed vehicular stunts on Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn (driving the warthog), Total Recall, Kingdom Hospital and more.

Simon Burnett – Stunt Double for Stephen Amell – ARROW

Simon has worked in the stunt industry for almost 18 years and is the amazing stunt double for Stephen Amell on Arrow. He has also doubled for Sean William Scott on Bulletproof Monk, Ryan Reynolds in Chaos Theory and X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Robert Pattinson on Twilight Saga: New Moon. He was a Motion Capture performer for Buck on Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Hopefully in season 2 we’ll see more incredible leaps and spectacular fights from Simon. He is a superhero.

Atlin Mitchell – Stunt Double for most of the female cast – ARROW

A relative newcomer to stunts, over the past five years Atlin has an impressive resume, doubling the likes of Anna Torv on Fringe, Erica Durance and Cassidy Freeman on Smallville, Ashley Greene on the Twilight Saga and Kate Beckinsale on Underworld: Awakening, as well as doubling for Jessica DeGouw and Katie Cassidy on Arrow.

An outstanding gymnast, Atlin also toured with Cirque du Soleil.

We look forward to a big season from Atlin as she doubles several female characters this season, including Caity Lotz.

Colin Decker – Stunt Performer – ARROW

Colin as worked in the stunt industry for almost 10 years and has numerous credits for fire stunts including The Secret Circle, The Thing, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Human Target, Scary Movie 4 and of course Arrow. Jeff Aro – Fight Choreographer – The Tomorrow People

Jeff Aro (formerly Jeff Ong) is a stunt performer who has achieved so much in a relatively short time. He has one Taurus Stunt Award win and another nomination under his belt. The win was in 2010 for Best High Work and the nomination was in the same year for Hardest Hit.

Jeff was Stunt Co-ordinator on Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome and has performed in films such as Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, 300, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Chad stunt doubled Vin Diesel in Chronicles of Riddick in addition to performing stunts on Stargate SG1 & Stargate Universe, Elysium, Supernatural, Underworld 4, Watchmen…. the list goes on. It’s a lot to fit in during his 19 years or so doing stunts.

Chad is skilled in race driving, gymnastics, MMA fighting, diving just to name a few.

Dustin Brooks – Head Rigger – The Tomorrow People

Member of Stunts Canada
IMDB

Dustin is “Mr Fire”. He was nominated for an Scientific and Technical Oscar in 2007 for a Fire Safety Gel. He’s been Fire Safety Co-ordinator on The Watchmen, The Incredible Hulk, The Punisher and Total Recall, among many others.
